"I started researching child modeling earlier this year trying to find legitimate agencies but found it really hard to tell who is real and who isn't. I was first contacted by ------- who wanted me to pay a fee for them to represent my child. Then ------- called (it sounded like a call center) and wanted us to come to a meeting - they also charge a $400 fee. Another wanted her to come to a 'casting' at their school to see if she would 'qualify' for their $1,500 training program. And -------- had us come to Miami to meet -------. She also offered to represent Chloe and said she had upcoming castings Chloe would be perfect for - if I would pay them $600. I didn't feel right about any of these places and, after finding out that it is illegal for Florida agencies to charge such fees, I wondered how I would ever avoid all the traps. I figured we might have to 'pay our dues' to get started, but I can't imagine how frustrating and upsetting it would be to spend thousands of dollars and get nowhere - yet still, I almost fell for it. Some of these companies were very convincing, they tell you just what you want to hear and I was considering paying ------- when fortunately I found you and was guided through the process. You answered all of my questions and concerns and gave me references. You also introduced Chloe to several legit agencies and saved me a lot of time running around to all of the not-so-legit ones. As a parent I think it is important that you feel safe about what your child is doing so making the right connections is key.
